Advanced Care Planning
Advanced care planning is thinking about, discussing, and writing down your wishes for health care, in the event that you are not able to voice your wishes in the future.
Talk to your loved ones, and your health care providers, about your wishes, including your Medical Orders for Scope of Treatment (MOST).
Planetary Health
Canada’s health care system is responsible for ~4.6% of the country’s total CO2 emissions.
We have compiled a list of ways patients can improve their health while simultaneously helping protect our planet:
- Food: Plant-rich eating benefits both your health and the planet.
- Paper waste: Exam bed paper does not reduce the spread of infections. We are transitioning away from exam bed paper use in our office. We continue to safely disinfect all surfaces.
- Medication disposal: Please ensure that your expired or unused medications are disposed of safely. Most pharmacies will accept unwanted medications at no cost!
- Inhalers: 100 doses from a single aerosol puffer has a carbon footprint equal to a 170-290km car journey! Consider the following:
- Talk to your physician about whether you have been tested for asthma or COPD
- Ask your physician if one of the many greener inhaler options might be right for you
- Review your inhaler usage technique
- Return your used, empty inhalers to your pharmacy for proper disposal
